Day 54 of 365

How Long, O Lord?

“How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?”

Psalm 13:1-2 (KJV) |

What This Means for You

David is honest with God in a way that might make us uncomfortable. How long will You forget me? Forever? How long will You hide Your face? This is not a man with weak faith. This is a man with real faith: real enough to bring his rawest pain straight to God. If you feel forgotten, abandoned, or invisible, you have permission to say so. God can handle your honesty.

Try This Today

Write your own "How long, Lord?" prayer. Be brutally honest. Don't clean it up or make it sound spiritual. Tell God exactly what you are feeling. Then end it the way David does in verse 5: "But I have trusted in thy mercy." Let both things be true at once.
