Genesis

Old Testament | Pentateuch | 50 chapters | 1,533 verses | Moses (traditionally attributed)

What Is the Book of Genesis About?

Genesis is the book of beginnings. It covers the creation of the world, the first humans, the entrance of sin, and the founding of the nation of Israel through Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. It spans more time than any other book in the Bible.

For everyday life, Genesis answers foundational questions. Where did we come from? Why is the world broken? What does it look like when God makes a promise and keeps it across generations? The stories here are not just ancient history. They set up patterns you will see repeated throughout the rest of Scripture and in your own life.

If you are new to the Bible, Genesis is one of the best places to start. The narrative is engaging, the themes are universal, and the lessons are immediately applicable.
